This book articulates Schuon’s thought and work around two complementary aspects of sapiential doctrine: on the one hand, the pure metaphysics, of a principial and speculative order; on the other hand, the properly operative, spiritual and initiatory side. Schuon recalls that the human condition finds its raison d’être in its very finality: the intellective knowledge of the transcendent Real, in other words, the Absolute, God, actualized by the intellectual and spiritual disciplines. In the same way, it restores to the whole cosmos its metaphysical transparency, its theophanic dimension, leading us to perceive the divine Reality through the “signs” and “traces” that manifest it.
