“Frithjof Schuon (1907-1998) is regarded in many parts of the world as one of the most important writers of the 20th century in the philosophy of religion. He is considered to be the leading exponent of the line of thought called Sophia perennis (“everlasting wisdom”), which contains the timeless and universally valid principles underlying the various teachings, emblems, sacred art, and spiritual exercises of the world’s religions, and focuses on metaphysics, which Schuon defines as “the science of the absolute or the true essence of things. The title “From the Divine to the Human” refers to the “from top to bottom” direction of thought: insights into the essence of the Divine, the Absolute, the first principles shed light on questions of human nature, on the realm of proportionality, which is the gift of proclamation. It can lead to liberating insights and deep certainty.
