Songs without Names: Poems by Frithjof Schuon Vol. VII-XII-XXXIII
For the pneumatic,1 the center is
For the pneumatic, the center is
The Pure Intellect — not the empirical ego;
The psychic, on the other hand,
Knows only himself as the center of knowledge.
Then comes the hylic: drunk with pleasures,
And deeply sunk in the illusion of matter.
Yet man is not incurably
How many souls have been transmuted!
Le centre est, pour le pneumatique,
Le centre est, pour le pneumatique,
Le pur Intellect — non l’ego empirique ;
Der reine Geist — nicht das Erfahrungs-Ich;
Hingegen kennt der bloße Psychiker
Als des Erkennens Mittelpunkt nur sich.
Dann kommt der Hyliker: von Lüsten trunken,
Und schwer in der Materie Trug versunken.
Doch ist der Mensch nicht unheilbar verschlossen —
Wie manche Seele wurde umgegossen!
