First, I mention the prophet,

Who has received a message from God,

In the wake of which a sector of humanity lives.

Then I mention the saint — his example

Is our shield against evil powers.

Then I praise also the sage,

Without whose spirit the world cannot live.

And then the hero, powerful in the warrior’s state —

His sword guarantees security in the land.

Then too the genius, creator of noble art —

He rightly receives the admiration of many ages.

And finally, there is the good man, of simple type,

His presence is of great worth.

Chez l’homme : d’abord je cite le prophète,

Qui a reçu une mission de Dieu,

Sur les traces de laquelle marche une humanité.

Puis je cite le saint — son image

Est notre bouclier contre les puissances mauvaises.

Et que soit aussi loué l’homme sage,

Sans l’esprit duquel le monde ne peut vivre.

Ensuite le héros, énergique dans l’état de guerrier —

Son épée procure la sécurité dans le pays de chacun.

Puis aussi le génie, créateur d’art noble —

A bon droit, il a la faveur de tant d’époques.

Finalement le brave homme, d’un genre tout simple —

De haute valeur est sa présence.

Beim Menschen: erstens nenn ich den Prophet,

Der eine Sendung hat von Gott empfangen,

Auf deren Spuren eine Menschheit geht.

Dann nenne ich den Heiligen — sein Bild

Ist gegen böse Mächte unser Schild.

Und dann sei auch gerühmt der weise Mann,

Ohne dess Geist die Welt nicht leben kann.

Und dann der Held, kraftvoll im Kriegerstand —

Sein Schwert schafft Sicherheit in aller Land.

Dann auch der Genius, Schöpfer edler Kunst —

Er hat mit Recht so mancher Zeiten Gunst.

Schließlich der brave Mann, ganz schlichter Art —

Von hohem Wert ist seine Gegenwart.
