Sattva, rajas and tamas: light, hot and heavy,
Sattva, rajas and tamas: light, hot and heavy,
So one could say, according to one’s viewpoint.
In Mâyâ there is “yes,” and “heat,” and “no” —
The soul is composed of variety.
But even in the heavy and dark there is a good:
The earth reposes beneath the sky’s expanse.
And God grant that what is dark in our soul
May be transformed into Spirit and Light.
Sattwa, rajas et tamas : léger, chaud et pesant,
Sattwa, rajas et tamas : léger, chaud et pesant,
Pourrait-on dire, suivant le point de vue.
Il y a un oui en Mâyâ, une ardeur et un non —
L’âme est brassée de diversité.
Mais le pesant et le sombre comportent aussi un bien :
Sous l’étendue céleste repose la terre.
Et fasse Dieu que ce qui est obscur
En notre âme devienne Esprit et Lumière.

Könnte man sagen, je nachdem man schaut.
Er gibt in Māyā Ja, und Glut, und Nein —
Die Seel ist aus Verschiedenheit gebraut.
Doch auch im Schweren, Dunklen ist ein Gut:
Unter der Himmelsweite ruht die Erde.
Und gebe Gott, dass das, was dunkel ist
In unsrer Seel, zu Geist und Helle werde.
