And need not fear. This is entirely false;
God loves not pride — He does not accept
That man should confer upon himself the garland of friendship.
Fear without love exists, this is evident;
But without fear there is no love,
For reverence is the price of all love —
Otherwise nothing of love would remain.

Car le profond respect est le prix de tout amour —
Sinon rien de l’amour ne subsisterait.

Und brauche keine Furcht. Falsch ist dies ganz;
Gott liebt nicht Übermut — Er nimmt nicht an,
Dass man sich schmücke mit der Freundschaft Kranz.
Furcht ohne Liebe gibt es, dies ist klar;
Doch ohne Fürchten gibt es keine Liebe.
Denn Hochachtung ist aller Liebe Preis —
Ansonsten nichts von Minne übrig bliebe.
