Songs without Names: Poems by Frithjof Schuon Vol. I-VI-LVII

I knew a man — wrote Muhyiddîn —

I knew a man — wrote Muhyiddîn —

Who wept every night over the sins of the day;

His tears flowed over the threshold —

A saint, as people around him thought.

He must have loved his tears immensely,

Otherwise he would not have committed his sins.

Je connus un homme — écrivit Mohyiddîn —

Je connus un homme — écrivit Mohyiddîn —

Qui chaque nuit pleurait sur ses péchés du jour ;

Ses larmes coulaient jusque sur le seuil —

Un saint, comme son entourage le pensait.

Il devait intimement aimer ses larmes,

Sinon ses péchés ne seraient pas arrivés.

Ich kannte einen Mann — schrieb Mohyiddīn —

Ich kannte einen Mann — schrieb Mohyiddīn —

Der jede Nacht des Tages Sünd beweinte;

Die Tränen flossen auf die Schwelle hin —

Ein Heiliger, wie seine Umwelt meinte.

Er musste seine Tränen innig lieben,

Sonst wären seine Sünden ausgeblieben.
