Chiefs with pipe in camp scene

This rather early painting (1953) of an Indian scene by Frithjof Schuon features three chiefs smoking the sacred pipe in the foreground with, behind them, a shield on a tripod, a buffalo skull, warriors on horseback, and a double rainbow. The tipi in the center is dominated by an image of a sacred thunderbird.
