Autumn Leaves & The Ring-Fullness

Sometimes one understands God, but not human souls.

One can understand that God made the world,

But not that men should torment other men.

Let it suffice thee that the Good exists —

There would be no good, if the Sovereign Good were not.

Hold fast to this, its horn is full —

God is fullness. And the rest is void.

Parfois on comprend Dieu, mais non les âmes humaines.

On peut comprendre que Dieu a fait le monde ;

Non que des hommes tourmentent d’autres hommes.

Satisfais-toi du fait que le Bien est —

Il n’y aurait pas de bien, si le Souverain Bien n’était.

Attache-toi à celui-ci, sa corne est pleine —

Dieu est la Plénitude. Et le reste est vide.

Manchmal versteht man Gott, nicht Menschenseelen.

Man kann verstehn, dass Gott die Welt gemacht;

Nicht, dass die Menschen andre Menschen quälen.

Dir sei Genüge, dass das Gute ist —

Es gäb kein Gut, wenn Höchstes Gut nicht wäre.

An dieses halte dich, sein Horn ist voll —

Gott ist die Fülle. Und der Rest ist Leere.
