The elephant is big, the fly is small —
The elephant is big, the fly is
Scientists say that this is mere appearance;
That in itself no thing is big or small;
Man merely sees it so, most strangely.
They are wrong; God wanted small and big;
They correspond entirely to realties.
Man is the measure — that is why he exists,
And it is useless to quarrel over this.

Les savants disent que c’est simple
Qu’en soi, nulle chose n’est ni grande ni
Ce n’est que vision de l’homme, très curieusement.
Ils se trompent ; Dieu voulait le petit et le grand ;
Ce sont des réalités parfaitement analogiques.
L’homme est mesure, c’est pourquoi il est
Et il est inutile d’ergoter à ce sujet.

Der Mensch nur sehe dies, gar wunderlich.
Sie irren sich; Gott wollte Klein und Groß;
Es sind ganz sinngemäße Wirklichkeiten.
Der Mensch ist Maßstab, deshalb ist er da;
Und es ist zwecklos, über dies zu streiten.
