Autumn Leaves & The Ring-Providence

For years of his life — and that nonetheless

His innermost depth remains sound,

The Work thrives; the evil one barks in vain.

After my father’s death I was thrust

Into another world; they wanted to change me;

But I stayed true to myself and let the fools rave.

Everything is Providence. The sufferings of the soul

Can kindle, indirectly, the well-being of the spirit;

The chosen one lacks nothing —

For God’s angels keep watch over his path.

L’œuvre fructifie ; le Malin aboie en vain.

Après la mort de mon père, je fus déplacé

Dans un autre monde ; on voulait me changer ;

Je restai fidèle à moi-même, laissant pester les sots.

Tout est Providence. La souffrance de l’âme

Peut indirectement attiser la santé de l’esprit ;

A l’homme élu de Dieu, rien ne manquera —

Car les anges de Dieu gardent son chemin.

Die Seel zerbricht — für Jahre seines Lebens —

Und dennoch bleibt sein Innerstes gesund,

Das Werk gedeiht; der Böse bellt vergebens.

Nach meines Vaters Tod wurd ich verschoben

In eine andre Welt; man wollt mich ändern;

Ich blieb mir treu und ließ die Toren toben.

Alles ist Vorsehung. Der Seele Leiden

Kann mittelbar des Geistes Wohl entfachen;

Dem auserwählten Menschen mangelt nichts —

Da Gottes Engel seinen Weg bewachen.
