Songs without Names: Poems by Frithjof Schuon Vol. I-VI-C

Certitude of God calls for nobility of soul,

Certitude of God calls for nobility of soul,

And also brings the consolation of certitude of salvation.

Certitude of salvation calls for fear of God

And good works. The Most High is angry

With those who handle Truth too lightly,

And seek not to know His holy Will.

In this world certitude, and nobility of soul,

Are the defense against the army of illusion.

Certitude of God is unconditional;

But the presentiment of salvation is a grace that beckons from afar.

La certitude de Dieu exige la noblesse de l’âme et apporte

La certitude de Dieu exige la noblesse de l’âme et apporte

En même temps la consolation de la certitude du salut ;

La certitude de Dieu — elle est inconditionnelle ;

Le sentiment du salut est une grâce qui nous fait signe.

Gottesgewissheit fordert Seelenadel

Gottesgewissheit fordert Seelenadel

Und bringt zugleich der Heilsgewissheit Trost.

Des Heils Gewissheit fordert Gottesfurcht

Und gutes Werk. Der Höchste ist erbost

Mit jenen, die die Wahrheit leichthin tragen

Und nicht nach seinem heilgen Willen fragen.

Gewissheit, Seelenadel, sind die Wehr,

In dieser Welt, wider des Truges Heer.

Gottesgewissheit — sie ist unbedingt;

Das Heilsgefühl ist Gnade, die uns winkt.
