Songs without Names: Poems by Frithjof Schuon Vol. I-VI-LXIV

A samurai, a woman like a butterfly —

A samurai, a woman like a butterfly —

Never were there on earth two things more different.

So each of these two unique phenomena had to become

A richly endowed part of the other.

The husband like a freshly drawn sword;

The wife — an ornament of flowers on the hearth.

L’époux comme une épée fraîchement tirée ;

Der Gatte wie ein frischgezognes Schwert;

Die Gattin — Blumenschmuck auf einem Herd.
