Songs without Names: Poems by Frithjof Schuon Vol. I-VI-LXXXVII
Theodicy — it is a two-edged sword, because in it
Theodicy — it is a two-edged sword, because in it
Being is equated with Beyond-Being;
Being — the Personal God — does not wish evil;
All-Possibility alone is the cause of evil.
The good in the wide world proves
That the substance of the Godhead is the Good;
Evil is only a brief cycle,
Whose kernel rests in the womb of possibilities.
And what God cannot exclude,
He can only prevent in part;
We cannot dictate to the Heavenly Powers
What they must do and not do.
La théodicée ¾ elle est à double tranchant,
La théodicée — elle est à double tranchant,
Parce qu’on assimile l’Être au Sur-Être ;
L’Être — le Dieu personnel — ne veut pas le mal ;
La Toute-Possibilité en est seule la cause.
Le bien dans le vaste monde prouve
Que la substance du Divin est le bien ;
Le mal n’est qu’un cycle bref,
Dont le noyau reposait au sein des possibilités.
Et ce que notre Dieu ne saurait exclure,
Il ne peut que vouloir l’empêcher en partie ;
Nous ne pouvons prescrire aux Puissances
Ce que Là-Haut elles doivent faire ou non.
Theodizee — sie ist zweischneidig, weil
Theodizee — sie ist zweischneidig, weil
Das Sein man gleichstellt mit dem Übersein;
Das Sein — Gott als Person — will Böses nicht;
Ursache ist Allmöglichkeit allein.
Das Gute in der weiten Welt beweist
Dass die Substanz des Göttlichen das Gute;
Das Böse ist ein kurzer Zyklus nur,
Des Kern im Schoß der Möglichkeiten ruhte.
Und was ausschließen unser Gott nicht kann,
Das kann er stückweis nur verhindern wollen;
Vorschreiben können wir den Mächten nicht
Was sie dort Oben tun und lassen sollen.
