Songs without Names: Poems by Frithjof Schuon Vol. I-VI-XCVI
I heard a lute deep in the night —
I heard a lute deep in the
O sweet sound of a song without words.
Who thought so lovingly of
Who, in my dream, stood at my heart’s door?
The soul is a veil of dreams, woven
Of longing that yearns for love;
Beauty and love are the melody
My own heart gave me in the night.
The primordial nature of the Good is to
But its wave, which chose the distant,
Longs to return from the shadows of foreign lands;
And thus was born the secret song
That vibrates through the chords of my soul
And ultimately sprang forth from God’s Love.
De profonde nostalgie assoiffée d’amour ;
Aspire au retour, loin des ombres étrangères ;
Wer stand im Traum an meines Herzens Pforte?
Traumschleier ist die Seele, und gewoben
Aus tiefer Sehnsucht, die nach Liebe drängt;
Des Guten Urnatur will überströmen —
Doch seine Welle, die die Ferne wählte,
Sehnt sich zurück, weg von der Fremde Schemen;
Und so entstand der heimliche Gesang
Der auf den Saiten meiner Seele schwingt
Und letzten Ends aus Gottes Lieb entsprang.
