Songs without Names: Poems by Frithjof Schuon Vol. I-VI-XX
Promise not more than thou canst keep;
Promise not more than thou canst keep;
Nor keep less than thou hast
“A man is as good as his word” is an old saying.
No noble man ever broke his
He would thereby have broken with himself.
Promise, and keep, thy faithfulness to the Most High,
So that thou mayst live without blemish or remorse;
Just as He keeps what He has promised:
Through His Name and for thy Path.
Ne pas promettre plus que ce qu’on peut tenir ;
Ne pas promettre plus que ce qu’on peut tenir ;
Afin de vivre sans reproche ni regret ;
Nicht mehr versprechen, als man halten kann;
Nicht mehr versprechen, als man halten kann;
Auf dass du lebest ohne Fehl und Reue;
So wie Er hält, was Er versprochen hat:
Durch seinen Namen und für deinen Pfad.
