Songs without Names: Poems by Frithjof Schuon Vol. I-VI-XXXVI
Vertical line and horizontal line —
Vertical line and horizontal
Synthesis and analysis; the latter is secondary
To the former. Those whose thinking is immersed in multiplicity
Stress the analytical point of view.
Synthesis seeks to put illusion aside;
Analysis seeks to encompass everything.
Certitude, and from it, serenity:
This is the soul, and the measure of things.
All in One and One in All: this is
The sign of the cross that measures the universe.
Ligne verticale, ligne horizontale —
Ligne verticale, ligne horizontale —
Synthèse et analyse ; celle-ci suit celle-là.
Qui reste dans la pensée du multiple,
Veut accentuer la vision analytique.
La synthèse veut laisser l’illusion de côté ;
L’analyse veut embrasser l’Univers.
Certitude, et par elle Sérénité :
Ceci est l’âme, et la mesure des choses.
Tout en Un, Un en Tout, c’est
Le signe de la croix qui mesure l’Univers.
Senkrechte Linie, waagerechte Linie –
Senkrechte Linie, waagerechte Linie –
Synthese, Analyse; diese kommt
Nach jener. Die im Vielheitsdenken wohnen,
Wollen der Analyse Schau betonen.
Synthese will den Trug beiseite lassen;
Die Analyse will das All umfassen.
Gewissheit, und aus ihr Serenitas:
Dies ist die Seele, und der Dinge Maß.
Alles in Einem, Eins in Allem ist
Das Kreuzeszeichen, das das Weltall misst.
