Like man and woman are thought and music —
Like man and woman are thought and
Reason and song. Between the two is poetry:
Poetry is melodious
Rays from the harmony of the spheres.
Sometimes the spirit is satisfied with words
But sometimes, when the element love is present,
Words wish to be united with song.
Pensée et musique sont comme homme et femme —
Pensée et musique sont comme homme et femme —
Raison et chant. Entre les deux la poésie :
Elle est une pensée mélodieuse —
Un rayonnement de l’harmonie des sphères.
Parfois la parole seule suffit à l’esprit —
Mais parfois, quand l’élément amour
S’active, la parole veut s’adjoindre le chant.
Wie Mann und Weib ist Denken und Musik —
Wie Mann und Weib ist Denken und Musik —
Vernunft, Gesang. Dazwischen Poesie:
Die Dichtung ist ein klingender Gedanke —
Ein Strahlen aus der Sphären Harmonie.
Manchmal genügt dem Geist das Wort allein —
Doch manchmal, wenn der Liebe Element
Sich regt, will Wort mit Sang verbunden sein.
