In my childhood, I was obliged to dissimulate;

The adult world did not understand me. Why?

Because I bore within myself the kernel of wisdom —

And this was vexing to others.

It was not wanted; so I feigned dullness,

And it made me ill. But Truth must always conquer —

What God has given us, can never fail.

C’était suffisant outrage pour les autres.

On ne la voulait point ; aussi je feignis la sottise

Et tombai malade. La Vérité doit néanmoins vaincre —

Ce que Dieu nous a donné ne peut avoir le dessous.

Was Gott uns schenkte, kann nicht unterliegen.
