Songs without Names: Poems by Frithjof Schuon Vol. VII-XII-XLII

The man in whose soul the Intellect has awoken

The man in whose soul the Intellect has awoken

Can, and must, think completely independently;

Not so the pseudo-philosopher —

All he can do is to drown the truth in his foolishness.

Quod licet Jovi, numquam licet bovi:

“What is lawful for Jupiter, is not lawful for the ox.”

The fool should not try to make his mark in philosophy —

One whose Intellect is deficient should not play the sage.

L’homme dans l’âme duquel s’éveille l’Intellect,

L’homme dans l’âme duquel s’éveille l’Intellect,

Sait, et doit, penser en toute indépendance ;

Der Mensch, in dessen Seel der Intellekt erwacht,

Der Mensch, in dessen Seel der Intellekt erwacht,

Er kann, und muss, ganz unabhängig denken;
