Auctoritas — teaching authority counts

Only in pure metaphysics, not in cosmology,

Which is always fluctuating;

Shankara is an infallible shield

Only when he speaks as a master of Advaita —

And not on the basis of the Sânkhya theory,

Which only has to do with the description of things.

Fidelity to literalness is hardly a guarantee;

Infallibility belongs to a deeper level.

Que pour la pure métaphysique, non

Pour la cosmologie sans cesse fluctuante ;

Shankara n’est un infaillible bouclier

Qu’en parlant en tant que Maître de l’advaïta —

Et non sur la base de la théorie du Shankhya,

L’infaillibilité relève d’une couche plus profonde.
