World Wheel: Poems by Frithjof Schuon Volumes I-III-CXLV

Where Light shines, there stands also the traitor —

Where Light shines, there stands also the traitor —

Judas, Abu Lahab, Devadatta.

But when the hero of Light appears in a dream,

Thou seest only him, and no evil-doer —

For if thou saw’st the latter it would not be true light,

But deceit. The evil one cannot

Show himself as good without betraying himself —

There is always a sign that unmasks the malefactor.

Mary has appeared multiple times, but never together

With a being from the evil one’s realm.

So Judas, Abu Lahab, Devadatta.

Sondern Betrug. Der Schlechte kann sich nicht

Als Guten zeigen ohn sich zu verraten —

Ein Zeichen stets entlarvt den Bösewicht.

Mehrmals erschien Maria; nie zugleich

Mit einem Wesen aus des Bösen Reich.
