World Wheel: Poems by Frithjof Schuon Volumes I-III-LXIV

Out in the forest,

Out in the forest,

The nightingale sings;

It sings of many beauties,

It praises the divine All.

It sings of the lovely flowers

That God strew on the meadows;

And of the twinkling stars,

That are beyond our time.

The flowers wither away,

They are not like the stars.

But they will not perish

In God’s eternal Kingdom.

Là dehors près de la forêt,

Là dehors près de la forêt,

Là chante le rossignol ;

Il célèbre tant de beautés,

Il fait l’éloge du divin Univers.

Il célèbre les fleurs suaves

Dont Dieu a parsemé les prés ;

Et les étoiles étincelantes,

Au-delà de tout notre temps.

Les fleurs sont éphémères,

Non pareilles aux étoiles.

Elles ne se faneront point

Dans l’éternel Royaume de Dieu.

Da draußen bei dem Walde,

Da draußen bei dem Walde,

Da singt die Nachtigall;

Sie singt von so manchem Schönen,

Sie lobt das göttliche All.

Sie singt von den lieblichen Blumen

Die Gott auf die Wiese gestreut;

Und von den leuchtenden Sternen,

Die jenseits all unserer Zeit.

Die Blumen sind vergänglich,

Sind nicht den Sternen gleich.

Sie werden nicht vergehen

In Gottes ewgem Reich.
