Why so? Because of the evanescence of things.

But be thou grateful and of good cheer, and stand

With one foot in Eternity.

Earthly existence can be what it will —

In the spiritual life, there is no time.

Tout dans la vie pourrait être attristant —

Pourquoi donc ? A cause de l’éphémérité.

Mais toi, sois reconnaissant et bien disposé ;

Et tiens-toi avec un pied dans l’Eternité.

L’existence terrestre peut être ce qu’elle veut —

Dans la vie spirituelle, il n’est point de temps.

Warum wohl? Wegen der Vergänglichkeit.

Doch sei du dankbar, guten Muts; und steh

Mit einem Fuße in der Ewigkeit.

Das Erdendasein mag sein, was es will —

Im Geistesleben gibt es keine Zeit.
