World Wheel: Poems by Frithjof Schuon Volumes I-III-XLIV
Fire and water: fire, a wild conflagration,
Fire and water: fire, a wild conflagration,
Yet also a motionless light before the altar;
Water, heavy and immobile in itself,
But also whipped up by a storm.
Behold the wondrous in these two elements: each power
Seeks to reproduce what characterizes the other.
Feu et eau : feu, incendie sauvage,
Feu et eau : feu, incendie sauvage,
Mais aussi calme lueur devant un autel ;
Eau, pesante, immobile en soi, mais aussi
Agitée par la tempête. Vois le merveilleux
En ces deux éléments : chaque puissance
Veut répéter ce que l’autre opère.
Feuer und Wasser: Feuer, wilder Brand,
Feuer und Wasser: Feuer, wilder Brand,
Jedoch auch stilles Leuchten am Altare;
Wasser, schwer, an sich reglos, jedoch auch
Vom Sturm getrieben. Sieh das Wunderbare
In beiden Elementen: jede Kraft
Will wiederholen, was die Andre schafft.
