World Wheel: Poems by Frithjof Schuon Volumes I-III-XLVII
Outside, by the gate,
Outside, by the gate,
I love to be alone,
And listen to the birds
In the late sun’s light.
I have lost myself,
No longer know who I am;
For the Great One alone
I bear now in my mind.
Yet many things exist
That are worthy of my love;
God turned my heart to the One
In the image of Himself.
Là dehors devant la porte,
Là dehors devant la porte,
J’aime me trouver seul,
J’écoute le chant des oiseaux
Dans la lueur du soleil tardif.
Je me suis perdu moi-même,
Ne sais plus qui je suis ;
Car c’est le Grand Un seul
Que je porte en mon esprit.
Il est tant de choses pourtant
Qui sont dignes de mon amour ;
Au sein de Son image, Dieu
A tourné mon cœur vers l’Un.
Da draußen vor dem Tore,
Da draußen vor dem Tore,
Da bin ich gern allein,
Horch auf der Vögel Singen
In später Sonne Schein.
Ich hab mich selbst verloren,
Weiß nicht mehr, wer ich bin;
Denn nur das Große Eine
Trag ich in meinem Sinn.
Doch sind so manche Dinge,
Die meiner Liebe wert;
Gott hat mein Herz zum Einen
In seinem Bild gekehrt.
