World Wheel: Poems by Frithjof Schuon Volumes I-III-XXXIV
“At the fountain in front of the gate” —
“At the fountain in front of the gate” —
This is an old song.
I heard it in my
How swiftly time flies!
At the fountain — one wanted
To forget the bustle of the day’s work,
And dream of fairy tales,
As if one were still a child.
« A la fontaine devant la porte » —
« A la fontaine devant la porte » —
C’est un vieux chant.
Je l’entendais dans mon enfance —
Mais comme le temps passe !
A la fontaine — on voulait oublier
Le va-et-vient de la besogne du jour ;
On voulait rêver de contes féeriques
Comme si on était encore un enfant.
„Am Brunnen vor dem Tore“ —
„Am Brunnen vor dem Tore“ —
Es ist ein altes Lied.
Ich hört es in meiner Kindheit —
Wie doch die Zeit entflieht!
Am Brunnen — man wollte vergessen
Des Tagewerks Hin und Her;
Man wollte von Märchen träumen
Als ob man ein Kind noch wär.
