Such was the prayer of the Lakota
He wanted Heaven’s blessing for his tribe.
This is the nature of prayer: thy praying
Also helps others in their plight.
« Grand-père, Grand Esprit, aie pitié,
« Grand-père, Grand Esprit, aie pitié,
Afin que moi et les miens puissions vivre. »
Tel était l’appel du guerrier Lakota —
Il voulait la bénédiction du Ciel pour sa tribu.
C’est la nature même de la prière : ta prière
Vaut aussi pour d’autres dans leurs détresses.
„Großvater, Großer Geist, hab Du Erbarmen,
„Großvater, Großer Geist, hab Du Erbarmen,
Auf dass ich und die Meinen leben mögen.“
So war das Rufen des Lakota-Kriegers —
Er wollte für den Stamm des Himmels Segen.
Dies ist das Wesen des Gebets: dein Beten
Gilt auch für Andere in ihren Nöten.
