Errare est humanum; in errore

Errare est humanum; in errore

Perseverare est diabolicum;

For lying minds that flee the truth,

What is crooked is straight, and what is straight is crooked.

Per animositatem; bitterness

In willful error comes from the devil.

It is much better to see one’s own limits —

Self-doubt is better than obstinacy.

Perseverare est diabolicum » ;

Pour les esprits menteurs qui fuient le Vrai,

Le courbe est droit, ou le droit est courbe.

« Per animositatem » ; l’amertume

Dans l’obstination de l’erreur vient du diable.

Il vaut mieux reconnaître ses propres limites —

Car le doute est préférable à l’entêtement.

Ist Krummes grade, oder Grades krumm.

„Per animositatem“; Bitterkeit

Im Eigensinn des Irrens ist vom Teufel.

Besser ist, eigne Grenzen einzusehen —

Denn besser als der Starrsinn ist der Zweifel.
