Necessity — that which must be — is the axle;
Necessity — that which must be — is the axle;
Possibility is the wheel’s rim.
The center is Being, which brings everything to pass;
The revolving circumference is Being’s gift.
Thou art both, and neither. God alone is
But He lends to us from out of His Being.
La Nécessité — ce qui doit être — est le moyeu ;

Le cercle qui se meut est Son don.
Et tu es les deux choses et aucune. Dieu seul
Est réel — mais Il prête de Son Être.

Die Mitte ist das Sein, das alles wirkt;
Der Kreis, der sich bewegt, ist seine Gabe.
Und du bist keins und beides. Gott allein
Ist wirklich — doch Er leiht von seinem Sein.
