Snowflakes whirl down to earth —
Snowflakes whirl down to
In warm homes, people sing summer songs.
In summer, when the sun burns fiercely,
They anxiously cherish everything that is cool.
Yin-yang — what does the symbol mean?
A to-and-fro — so it is with people
And with the soul. From each pole,
You should always take something of the other.
Des flocons de neige tombent sur terre en tourbillonnant —
Dans les chauds foyers on fredonne des chants d’été.
En été, quand le soleil darde cruellement,
On protège soigneusement tout coin de fraîcheur.
Yin-yang — que veut dire ce symbole ?
Un va-et-vient — ainsi en est-il des gens
Et de l’âme. Des deux pôles il vous faut
A chaque fois prendre quelque chose de l’autre.

Im Sommer, wenn die Sonne grausam brütet,
Wird ängstlich, was da Kühle hat, behütet.

Ein Hin und Her — so ist es mit den Leuten
Und mit der Seele. Von den beiden Polen
Sollt ihr jeweils etwas vom Andern holen.
