The touchstone that the human soul
Is not overestimating itself and is not blindly inflated,
Is that it feels its own
That it goes its way in humility and wisdom.
In humility: feeling itself like a child before God;
In wisdom: seeing things as they really are.

Ne se surestime et ne s’enfle aveuglément,
Est qu’elle sent sa propre faiblesse —
Qu’elle chemine dans l’humilité et la Sagesse.
Dans l’humilité : sens-toi devant Dieu comme un enfant.
Dans la Sagesse : vois les choses comme elles sont.
Der Prüfstein, dass des Menschen Seele sich
Der Prüfstein, dass des Menschen Seele sich
Nicht überschätzt und sich nicht blindlings bläht,
Ist, dass sie ihre eigne Schwäche fühlt —
Dass sie in Demut und in Weisheit geht.
In Demut: fühl vor Gott dich wie ein Kind;
In Weisheit: sieh die Dinge, wie sie sind.
