World Wheel: Poems by Frithjof Schuon Volumes IV-VII-XCIII
When Asia was finally liberated from the West,
When Asia was finally liberated from the West,
A weight was lifted from the hearts of many;
People said: this will be the golden age.
For prejudices make man dumb and blind;
The stubborn Guénonians did not know
That Asians too are only human.
Regarding Guénon’s East and West — it would be nice
To see only the sacred in the East;
The sacred essence — not the emptiness of mere habit.
Quand l’Asie fut enfin libre de l’Occident,
Quand l’Asie fut enfin libre de l’Occident,
Un poids tomba du cœur d’un grand nombre ;
On disait que c’était désormais l’âge d’or.
Car les préjugés rendent sourd et aveugle ;
Les guénoniens entêtés ne savaient point
Que les Asiates aussi ne sont que des hommes.
« Orient et Occident » — ce serait beau
De ne voir que le sacré en Orient ;
Le fondement sacré — non le vent de l’habitude.
Als Asien endlich war vom Westen frei,
Als Asien endlich war vom Westen frei,
Da fiel vom Herzen vieler ein Gewicht;
Es hieß, dass dies das Goldne Alter sei.
Denn Vorurteile machen taub und blind;
Die sturen Guénonianer wussten nicht,
Dass die Asiaten auch nur Menschen sind.
„Orient et Occident“ — es wäre schön,
Im Osten nur das Heilige zu sehn;
Den heilgen Grund — nicht der Gewohnheit Wind.
