World Wheel: Poems by Frithjof Schuon Volumes IV-VII-XXV
It was in the Wild West. An Indian
It was in the Wild West. An Indian
Said to me: “See that white
I heard he is an Italian;
So go and speak to him!”
I went to him and gave him my hand:
“Nel mezzo del cammin di nostra vita…”
He thought I was a friend from his country.
“Mi ritrovai per una selva oscura,”
Was his reply. — I would never have thought
That the Wild West would bring forth the spirit of Dante!
C’était dans le Far West. Un Indien
C’était dans le Far West. Un Indien
Me dit : « Regarde cet homme blanc —
J’ai entendu dire que c’est un Italien ;
Va donc le trouver et parle-lui ! »
Ich hab gehört, er sei ein Italiener;
